Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to probe how celebrities and leaders purchased covid-19 anti-injections and injections to help the needy, while at the same time they were facing a huge shortage in the country. A vacation bench of Justices Amjad Syed and GS Kulkarni said that the intention of the celebrities may be to help others but it was the Central Government which was authorized to allot those medicines.

The court underlined that these people did not realise that they were working against the law. The bench said that in such a situation, investigation should be made to ensure illegal procurement, hoarding, black marketing and availability of more medicines. The court's order came after Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, appearing for the Maharashtra government, said that the state has issued show cause notices to Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui, actor Sonu Sood's charity foundation and some others from Mumbai.

Kumbhakoni said Siddiqui and Sonu Sood have responded and both said they neither purchased or stored medicines and injections. The Advocate General told the court that "he said that in some cases he was only working to facilitate by paying the price of medicines and in some cases without paying. He said "He was in touch with the makers".
