New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday questioned the Delhi Police as to what crime some Indian nationals committed by sheltering foreigners who joined the Tablighi Jamaat during the lockdown last year. The court also referred to the Corona Guidelines and said that the government had not imposed any ban on any particular place of any person.
In fact, a bench of Justice Mukta Gupta was hearing a petition seeking quashing of petitions filed against citizens who sheltered foreigners who joined the Tablighi Jamaat. Meanwhile, he said, the lockdown caused by the corona epidemic led to the Jamaatis seeking shelter and not being accused of violating the order banning traffic.
Justice Mukta said, where can anyone go when the lockdown suddenly comes into force? What crime has happened here? Is there any ban on the residents of Madhya Pradesh staying in a mosque, temple or Gurudwara in Delhi? They can stay anywhere they want. Was there any such notice that whoever was living (with them) would be thrown out by everyone? Justice Mukta said that when there is no question of changing places, where is the violation?
