We all are excited for Holi. The festival of colors is celebrated in the entire India with great enthusiasm. In different parts of India, it is celebrated in different ways. Mathura, Vrindavan and Barsana are amongst the famous places to celebrate Holi in India. As these places have great significance in Lord Krishna’s life. Thousands of people not only from India but also from western countries came here to enjoy the festival of colors.   

However, the people of Mathura, Vrindavan and Barsana have very different way of playing Holi. Here, the traditional Holi is celebrated not only with flowers, colors, and gulal, but also with Latha ( a stick to hit ) Lathmar Holi is celebrated in Barsana. The Holi of laddus is going to be played in Barsana on 27th February. Meanwhile, the Lathmar Holi is going to be organized in Barsane on 28th February.

How to Celebrate Lathamar holi

The world-famous Lathmar Holi is celebrated in Barsana. In Lathmar Holi, women take sticks and beat their men and men try to defend themselves with the Latha. People participate enthusiastically in this Lathmar Holi. In this Lathmar Holi, men keep a shield on their heads and protect themselves from the sticks of their women. On this day various competitions related to singing, dancing were organized between women and men.

According to the information, Lathamar Holi started about 5000 years ago. As per a popular belief once Krishna reached Barsana village to meet Radha in Nand village, he started teasing Radha and her friends, due to which Radha and her friends started beating Krishna and his cowherd men with sticks to drive them away. Since then the tradition of Lathmar Holi started specially in these cities. When the youths of Nand village go to Barsana, the women there drive them away with sticks and the youths try to escape from these sticks. The men were even made to dance in women's costumes if they failed to protect themselves.
