Death Anniversary: How much do you know about India's first Education Minister?

Since India's independence, many politicians started doing their own politics. But despite this, there were leaders in the country who used to do something for religion besides politics. One such name is Maulana Abul Kalam Azad or Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin, who has supported the country in many important decisions after independence. Azad was born on November 11, 1888, in the Mecca Usmani empire. Today is his death anniversary.  

Abul Kalam Azad was a Muslim politician who has done many important works for the country. He was a renowned Indian Muslim scholar and at the same time, he was also a poet, writer, journalist, and Indian freedom fighter. He was an important politician in the case of India's independence. He supported the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. He worked for Hindu-Muslim unity and was among the Muslim leaders who opposed the principle of a separate Muslim nation (Pakistan). Apart from this, he played an essential role in the Khilafat movement.  

In 1923, Azad became the youngest President of the Indian National Congress. He was president of the Congress between 1940 and 1945 and after independence, he was elected MP from Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh state of India in 1952 and he also became the first Education Minister of India. Abul Kalam Azad died on 22 February 1958 in Delhi.
