New Delhi: The council of ministers of the Modi government has given its approval to the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme), which will provide free electricity to more than 100 million families in the country. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, and the news was shared by Union Minister Anurag Thakur during a press conference. This means that people will now have clear access to 300 units of free electricity under the solar subsidy scheme.

On Thursday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that during the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the 'PM Surya Ghar Yojna' was approved. He further explained that under this free electricity scheme, solar panels will be installed in the homes of over 100 million families across the country, with the central government spending a total of ₹75,021 crore on this entire project. Additionally, model solar villages will also be developed in each district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM Surya Ghar Yojna on February 13th of this month. Beneficiaries under this scheme will receive 300 units of free electricity. Furthermore, in order to reduce the burden of costs for those installing solar panels on their rooftops, the central government has provisioned subsidies. Applicants must be residents of India to avail themselves of the benefits of this scheme. Additionally, low-income and middle-income families owning their own homes can apply for it.

It is important to note that in order to receive the subsidy from the government, applicants will need to fulfill certain requirements. After the installation of the net meter, a commissioning certificate will be issued by the DISCOM upon inspection, indicating that you have now applied for the scheme. However, to receive the subsidy, you will need to upload a document. After the certificate is issued, you will need to submit bank account details and a cancelled check on the portal. Subsequently, the subsidy will be sent to your bank account.
