Bern: Reducing the sentence of a rape accused by saying that 'rape took place only for 11 minutes' is shameful. Is it fair to punish a rape accused on the basis of the time frame of the offense? In Switzerland, people took to the streets to protest against the reduction of the sentence of a rape accused by a judge in a rape case. People are protesting on the streets of Switzerland against the judge's decision, with the highest number of women protesters.

In fact, in a case last year, the court reduced the rape sentence, saying that he raped the woman for just 11 minutes. After the judge's decision, people have taken to the streets and are demanding withdrawal of their verdict. According to media reports, the case dates to June 20, 2020. The 33-year-old woman, who lives in Basel, alleged that two Portuguese attacked and raped her outside her house. One of the accused is said to be 17 years old and the other is said to be 32 years old. Pronouncing the verdict on the case, the woman judge said that the rape took place for only 11 minutes. It was a relatively short period.

The minor is yet to be sentenced by the court. But the sentence of the second convict has been reduced from 51 months to 36 months. People are opposing this decision. Not only that, but the woman judge also made remarks about the victim which added to the controversy. The judge said the victim may have sent signals to the accused. So the courage of the accused must have increased. The judge said it was a very minor mistake.
