Hyderabad FC, who were out of the playoff race in the sixth season of the Indian Super League, on Sunday announced the appointment of Albert Roca as their new coach. According to a report, former Bangalore FC coach Roca will now replace Phil Brown. Hyderabad FC had sacked Brown on Saturday. Roca however will take over the coaching of Hyderabad from the 2020-21 season. But in the remaining matches of this season, he will work to advise Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad team is going through its poor performance in the tournament and has only five points from 12 matches and is still in the final position in the points table. The team lost 1-3 to two-time champions Chennai FC on Friday in their last match. 57-year-old Roca has previously been the coach of defending champions Bengaluru FC from 2016 to 2018. He took over as the coach of Bengaluru in the 2017-18 season and under his guidance the Bangalore team was successful in reaching the final.
In the final, Bengaluru had to face defeat at the hands of Chennai. Roca was also involved in the race for the coaching post of the Indian football team. Brown joined FC Pune City in 2018 and replaced interim coach Pradume Reddy. He took over the Pune team on 2 February 2019. In the 2018-19 season, Pune was successful in winning three matches in six matches, while they played two draws and lost in one.
