The Flight Data Recorder, or 'Black Box,' of the ill-fated Indian Air Force chopper that crashed at Coonoor on Wednesday, killing Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and 12 others, was recovered by defence officials on Thursday.

The black box was discovered after authorities expanded the search area from 300 metres to one kilometre from the crash site, according to official sources. Official sources said two boxes, including the flight data recorder, were found from the accident site and will be flown to Delhi or Bengaluru to determine the reason of the disaster.

The black box would reveal critical information about the chain of events that led to the catastrophe in the highlands on Wednesday, when Rawat, the country's first CDS, his wife, and 11 people were killed when the Mi-17VH helicopter they were travelling in crashed and caught fire, leaving only one survivor.

Meanwhile, a video of a helicopter disappearing from the sky near a hilly location is circulating on social media, and it has been linked to the disaster. The IAF, on the other hand, has not confirmed the viral footage, which was allegedly filmed by a visitor.
