RAJASTHAN: Technical Glitch Causes Air Store Release Near Pokhran Firing Range: In a latest incident, an Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jet unintentionally released an air store near the Pokhran firing range due to a technical malfunction. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and fortunately, there have been no reports of damage to life or property.
The IAF has confirmed the accidental release and stated that an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the malfunction. The official statement on social media read: “An inadvertent release of an air store from an Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft took place near Pokhran firing range area due to technical malfunction today. An inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident. No damage to life or property has been reported.”
The Pokhran firing range, located in Rajasthan's Thar Desert, is a crucial site for the Indian armed forces' testing and training exercises.
This incident echoes a more serious occurrence from March 2022, when a BrahMos missile was mistakenly fired into Pakistan. Although unarmed, the missile caused property damage and created a crater in a field. The accidental launch led to significant concern and potential diplomatic tension. Indian authorities later attributed the incident to a technical malfunction and incurred an estimated loss of â‚ą25 crore. Following the incident, three IAF officers were dismissed for negligence.
Currently, the IAF is focused on identifying the issue that led to the accidental release and ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future.
