CHENNAI: An Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan fainted during the 92nd-anniversary celebration at Tambaram Air Force Station in Chennai on Tuesday. The jawan was quickly carried away on a stretcher after the incident.

This event follows a tragic air show on October 6 at Marina Beach, Chennai, where five attendees died due to extreme heat. Over 100 individuals were affected, with 93 requiring hospital treatment. Five people, who were brought to various hospitals, were declared dead upon arrival.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian addressed the unfortunate incident, while opposition leaders criticized the government for inadequate planning. BJP Tamil Nadu Vice President Narayanan Thirupathy blamed the lack of coordination among the authorities for the tragedy, citing poor traffic arrangements and insufficient public safety measures.

"Five people died due to the high temperature, and 102 were affected. Fortunately, the situation has now improved, with only seven patients still hospitalized," said the health minister.

The air show, held ahead of the Air Force Day celebrations, was intended to showcase the IAF's capabilities but was overshadowed by the deaths caused by soaring temperatures.
