Nagpur: Team India defeated Australia by an inning and 132 runs in the first match of the Border Gavaskar Test series played in Nagpur. Team India and the fans had just started celebrating the victory when the ICC gave them a big blow. ICC has imposed a fine of 25 percent match fee on Team India's star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The ICC has imposed this fine by holding Jadeja guilty of Level-1 rule violations. The ICC has issued a statement stating that Jadeja violated Article 2.20 of its Code of Conduct during the first Test match played in Nagpur.

Actually, this incident is of the 46th over of Australia's first innings. On February 9, the first day of the match, Jadeja was seen applying ointment on his fingers. A video of Jadeja went viral, in which he is seen taking something from Mohammad Siraj and applying it on the finger of his left hand. For this reason, the Australian media even called Jadeja a cheater, but the Indian team management told that Jadeja had a finger injury and hence he was applying the ointment. But this was done without the permission of the on-field umpires.

The ICC has stated in its statement that Jadeja has accepted his mistake and has accepted the punishment given by ICC Match Referee Andy Pricroft. Therefore no official hearing was required. The match referee accepted that Jadeja had applied the cream on his finger only for medical reasons and had no intention of ball-tampering. It didn't even change the condition of the ball. Jadeja was leveled by on-field umpires Nitin Menon, Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan.
