World Environment Day is celebrated all over the world on 5th June. Many programs are organized on this day to make people aware about the damage to the environment due to pollution. The increasing level of pollution is becoming a threat to the environment as well as to humans. Due to this many animals are becoming extinct. Humans are also falling prey to many types of serious diseases. World Environment Day was started by the United Nations in the year 1972. The human population is increasing rapidly. The world population at the beginning of the 20th century was 1.6 billion, today it is 7.5 billion and will increase to 10 billion by 2050. Such a huge population is putting a heavy burden on natural resources. The competition for access to resources has also led to disputes in Africa and the Asian continent.

Air pollution and climate change: Our climate and seawater are full of carbon. Co2 dissolved in the atmosphere absorbs and releases ultraviolet radiation. This warms the air, warms the land and water. Without this process, the earth would become icy. But the excess of carbon in the air is harming health and the warming earth is also facing climate change.

Deforestation: The forests which give shelter to many types of plants and animals are being cut daily. Especially in rainforest areas. Forests play a big role in absorbing carbon. But after cutting the forests, soybean, palm and other varieties are being cultivated. Today 30 percent of the earth is covered by forests. But every year 73 lakh hectares of forest are being cut. Which is very sad.

Soil Erosion: Nowadays, soil quality is deteriorating all over the world due to excessive use of manure, uniform farming and over-cutting of fodder. According to the UN, 12 million hectares of land are getting degraded every year.
