The first phase of the 2024-25 placement season has turned out to be highly successful for students at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in Delhi and Kanpur. The Class of 2025 secured an impressive 1,200+ job offers at IIT Delhi and 1,109 at IIT Kanpur.
Record Offers and Selections
These job offers include a combination of final placement and pre-placement offers, with the latter based on students’ internship performances. At IIT Delhi, over 1,150 students were uniquely selected for roles, while IIT Kanpur saw 1,035 offers accepted by students from the total pool of offers received. The placement process for the academic year is still ongoing across all IITs, promising further opportunities.
Top Recruiters and International Offers
IIT Delhi witnessed visits from leading recruiters such as Google, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, American Express, Barclays, BCG, and Micron Technology. Over 50 international job offers were made to students from more than 15 companies spanning countries like Japan, the USA, UK, Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan, and UAE.
Meanwhile, IIT Kanpur recorded 28 international offers, marking a notable 27% increase compared to last year. The institute also observed a rise in placements within core industries, reflecting growing student interest in these sectors. Public Sector Undertakings also played a major role, with Bharat Petroleum Corporation standing out as the top recruiter in this category.
Participation from Leading Companies
As many as 250 companies participated in the Phase-1st placement drive at IIT Kanpur. Renowned names like BPCL, NPCI, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Deutsche Bank, and FedEx made their presence felt.
Future Prospects
The placement teams at both IITs expressed optimism about maintaining this positive momentum. IIT Delhi’s Office of Career Services is working on expanding the range of companies and job profiles in the upcoming placement phases. A similar effort is underway at IIT Kanpur to provide diverse opportunities for students.
The achievements of IIT Delhi and Kanpur in the ongoing placement season underline their standing as top destinations for academic and professional excellence.
It is also be noted, the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bombay and Delhi have secured their place among the top 150 universities worldwide, marking a significant achievement for Indian higher education. IIT Bombay made an impressive leap, climbing 31 spots from its previous rank of 149 to secure the 118th position globally. Similarly, IIT Delhi showcased remarkable progress, improving by 47 positions to claim the 150th spot. Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continued its reign as the world's leading university, retaining the top rank for an astounding 13th consecutive year.
