Guwahati:: Beta Tank Robotics, an innovative startup incubated at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), has unveiled two groundbreaking robotic solutions that promise to revolutionize the way petroleum tanks are maintained and cleaned. These cutting-edge robots eliminate the need for human entry into these hazardous environments, ushering in a new era of safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental responsibility within the oil industry.

Founded within the nurturing confines of the IITG-Technology Incubation Centre (IITG-TIC) in 2019, Beta Tank Robotics, also known as BetaTANK, has received vital support through the 'Startup Nurturing, Enabling, and Handholding (SNEH)' Flagship Programme under the Start-up India Fund, sponsored by OIL India Limited.

Robots have long held the potential to transform the oil and natural gas sector, especially in situations where human entry poses significant risks. Major oil corporations often face legal liabilities and reputational risks when sending workers into petroleum tanks. The innovative robots developed by Beta Tank Robotics effectively mitigate these risks while also minimizing operational downtime.

BetaTank has introduced two groundbreaking solutions to address these challenges. First, their specialized robot is designed to clean the sludge at the bottom of crude oil tanks. These robots adeptly sweep and transfer the tank's bottom sludge to an external receptacle without the need for human intervention.

The second solution is a robot designed for water-washing and stripping retail outlet petrol pump tanks. These robots expertly navigate the inside of the tanks, extending their arms to perform a thorough water-washing of the tanks, effectively removing any residue. This breakthrough technology simplifies the gas freeing process, ensuring it is both safe and efficient.

Professor Senthilmurugan, Chairperson of the IITG-Technology Incubation Centre (IITG-TIC), commended BetaTANK Robotics for their remarkable journey, which began within the IITG incubation center in 2019. He noted that their success serves as a shining example of what can be achieved with the right blend of passion, innovation, and a strong support network.
