Surat: In a significant joint operation conducted on Sunday, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) collaborated to apprehend 14 Pakistani nationals off the Gujarat coast. The security forces seized a substantial amount of contraband drugs, weighing 86 kilograms and valued at approximately Rs 602 crore, from the possession of the apprehended individuals.

The operation turned perilous as the Pakistani nationals attempted to evade arrest. In a desperate move, they tried to run their boat over the ATS officials and even resorted to opening fire in retaliation. However, the security forces managed to apprehend the suspects without any casualties.

The search operation had been ongoing near the international sea border, well within Indian territorial waters, for the past two days. The successful operation represents a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region.

This operation closely followed another major success for law enforcement agencies. Just a day prior, the NCB had uncovered and dismantled three labs involved in manufacturing the banned drug mephedrone, commonly known as 'meow meow'. These labs were operating in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Seven individuals were arrested in connection with this case, and narcotics with an estimated value of approximately Rs 300 crore were seized.

The uncovering of these labs was the result of diligent efforts by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police, who acted on information received from a confidential source. The information revealed the presence of drug manufacturing labs in Gujarat and Rajasthan, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies.

These back-to-back operations have dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region, signaling a resolute stance by Indian security agencies against illicit drug trade and related criminal activities.
