IMD issues Yellow Alerts on These Southern Districts

Bangalore: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in the state capital till June 4 and a yellow alert has been issued to 8 districts, including  Bangalore.

The IMD also predicted average rainfall in Udupi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburgi, Raichur, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts. In addition, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada,  Bangalore  Rural,  Bangalore  Urban, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts are districts where the yellow alert has been sounded.

Bangalore  city has already started getting heavy rains and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has warned officials of the Bruhat  Bangalore  Mahanagara Palike to initiate precautionary measures to avoid rain-related tragedies.

Tushar Giri Nath, the chief commissioner of the BBMP, went to the Yelahanka East region on Tuesday night and looked at the waterlogging prevention measures. Additionally, he went through the control rooms and gave instructions on how to be vigilant and act promptly.

The BBMP Chief Commissioner said, the entire BBMP apparatus has been strengthened to handle the rain and flooding in the city. The Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, gave the order for "this massive, elaborate, and meticulous preparation," Giri Nath stated.

Giri Nath said the specifics of the BBMP's preparations, stating that the forest wing, chief engineers, executive engineers and all zonal commissioners must be on "high alert on the field" and continuously monitor the situation.
