Chennai: A low-pressure area formed in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal is moving towards the north coast of Tamil Nadu and turning into a low-pressure area. This is expected to lead to heavy rain with strong winds. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), during its next 36 hours, it is likely to hit the west-northwest coast along the east coast of Sri Lanka as well as the north Tamil Nadu coast.
The Met department said this may lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. According to the Met department, heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers is expected in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on March 5. While there may be light to moderate rain at some places. Light to moderate rain is also likely to occur over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on March 5.

Due to this, the fishermen have been instructed not to move towards the south Bay of Bengal and the surrounding equatorial Indian Ocean till March 5. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the west-central Bay of Bengal and the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh as well as from southwest and adjoining areas.
