Imphal: The Craft Development Promoters Organization has organised the 'Ningol Mela,' a ten-day handloom and handicrafts fair at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal, to boost the state's handloom and handicrafts industry.

Sanabam Bocha Singh, Secretary of Craft Development Promoters Organisation, said in a press briefing, "The fair has been organised in conjunction with the Manipuri people's Ningol Chakkouba festival. The theme of the festival is to strengthen the love bond between married women and their paternal families. We have both handwoven and handcrafted items in stock." Handloom artisans in the state have seen their business suffer as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A stall owner, Memcha Laishram, said, "Our business was severely harmed last year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ten-day fair was cancelled due to the pandemic. This time, we're content." Another stall owner, Kalapana Tharoijam, said, "There are a total of 30 stalls. Customers are coming in to buy our handwoven products."
