About 50 Dalits entered a local temple for the first time in their lives in a village in Madurai. Interestingly, the temple is surrounded by 20 Dalit families and they are the ones who take care of the temple and pandits are also one of these Dalit families. Apart from these 20 families, all other Dalits in the village were refused entry into the temple.
Let me tell you that the Pekkaman Karuppasamy temple is very famous in this area, and it has 8 acres of land. At the same time, a good revenue comes into the temple through prasad, etc. Since Piramalai Kallar is said to be part of the organizing committee, it has been decided that Dalits should not be allowed inside.
Recently, a Dalit man from the village had approached the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court. The court ordered the district administration to take action and at the time of investigation, Pirmalai Kallar refused the blame for preventing Dalits from entering. Thereafter, 50 Dalits from the village finally got entry into the temple for the first time. At the time when they were entering the temple to pay obeisance, there was a large number of police officers and Tehsildars.
