Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday donated Rs 5 lakh to the kin of those killed by forest guards in Mukhroi. On Tuesday morning, Mamata Banerjee met the families of the victims who were shot dead by forest guards in Shillong on November 22. Banerjee, who is on a visit to Meghalaya, accused the BJP government of neglecting the northeastern states.
Talking about women empowerment, she promised to give Rs 1000 per month to women and 33 percent reservation for women. She said that NRC will not be implemented. TMC All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Meghalaya Trinamool Observer Manas Bhuyan, Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya Assembly Mukul Sangma, and TMC State President Charles Pinegrope were present on the occasion. Mamata Banerjee handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the victims. Before coming to power in Bengal, TMC used to help them financially when they were killed by the police or in the political struggle of the Left Front government.
Continuing that trend, Mamata has also provided financial assistance to the families of those killed by forest guards in Meghalaya. After meeting them, Mamata went to the Central Library in Shillong. On the way, Mamata also played drums according to the culture of Meghalaya. She also held discussions with the locals there. Mamata also spoke to them for a while. Wanted to know their current family situation. CM Mamata also heard from the family how the incident took place that day. They have been assured that If TMC forms government in Meghalaya, they will definitely think about their families.
