Beijing: India has strongly advocated exporting its high-quality organically grown tobacco to China. The world's most smokers are in China. A delegation led by Sunita Sunita, chairman of the Tobacco Board of India, met with Zhang Jianmin, chief commissioner of China's State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, on Friday. He, meanwhile, asked China to open its market for Indian tobacco imports. The Indian Embassy said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

He has said that Indian tobacco quality is good and is cultivated organically and is free from pesticide. India is the only country that produces tobacco during the two sessions. China has the highest 35 million smokers in the world. China has a 42 percent share in the international production of cigarettes. It is the largest producer and consumer of tobacco.

Sunita has said that the distance between the two countries is short, which will also reduce the transportation cost of Indian tobacco to the Chinese market. India is the third largest producer and exporter of non-manufactured tobacco. India exports tobacco worth over 5,000 crore rupees to more than 115 locations, including Japan and Europe. However, the export of Indian tobacco to China is negligible.
