The Secretariat has decided to curb the arbitrary MPs for booking tickets to travel on trains. It will be problematic for people if they book railway tickets, and if they will no travel and do not cancel the ticket. According to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, some MPs make advance booking of ticket reservations for different destinations from different stations to travel on several trains at the same time on the same day. But not cancelling the ticket, the Railways claim the recovery of those booked tickets from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

Secretariat has requested its MPs to cancel the tickets on which they do not travel despite the advance booking. It is to avoid unnecessary burden on Rajya Sabha budget. Other people will be able to get an alternate ticket for the journey. But despite booking the ticket, its money will be collected from the members who do not travel on it and do not cancel the ticket on time.

Apart from this, every member of Parliament gets a free ticket or pass in any train across India for travelling in first-class air condition or executive class as per rules. Apart from this, one assistant of every MP gets one ticket in AC class for free. In another provision, Member of Parliament along with his /her life partner gets free travel facility in first-class air conditioner compartment to travel anywhere in the country.
