USA: Worried about ominous WhatsApp calls? We could soon have a solution. According to WABetaInfo, the app is reportedly developing a new privacy feature to block unauthorised callers. You will need to wait a little longer before you can use the feature, though. As part of update version 2.23.10.7, the new option is currently being rolled out on the Android beta channel.

The "Privacy" section of the app will include a toggle to "Silence unknown callers." Once the feature is activated, WhatsApp calls made by unidentified numbers that are not in your contact list will be muted. The 'Calls' tab in the app and the notification panel both allow you to track muted calls.

Community administrators will benefit from the new privacy feature as they frequently get unwanted calls because everyone in the group can see their phone numbers. The new option also increases your control over who can contact you, which is important because it lowers the possibility that users will be duped by scam calls because unknown calls will be automatically silenced.

Be aware that there is currently no way to silence incoming calls from unknown numbers. On the beta channel for Android, testing is currently taking place. A later update might include the feature.

A new bottom navigation bar for WhatsApp is also being rolled out to beta users on the Android channel, which is modelled after the controls found on the iOS version of the app.

A privacy checkup feature is being added separately to the Meta-owned app on the iOS beta channel. The new tool functions as a sort of one-stop shop where you can quickly review your privacy settings.
