Washington:  In the US, Kia Motors has ordered the recall of 51,568 Carnival vehicles. The auto-reversing feature of the sliding doors on the affected units, which are from the model years 2022 and 2023, may not be working properly.

Nine confirmed injuries, including both children and adults, have been reported. Auto owners are urged to get in touch with their nearby dealerships as soon as possible.

According to Kia, it's possible that passengers on the Carnival won't notice when the power sliding doors are about to close, which could lead to accidents.

The doors allegedly failed to detect obstructions when closing, which led to accidents. Kia hasn't found any issues, though. A new software update will slow down how quickly the doors close and add two warning chimes as they do so.

The 2022 model year units of Carnival as well as the 2023 lot (as of February 22) are all covered by the recall. The process of the recall and update will be free of charge, and the company will begin notifying car owners on April 28.

Any Carnival owners with concerns should get their cars inspected at the local dealership.

It comes with a roomy interior, automatic climate control, USB ports, cruise control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six airbags, ABS, EBD, and a rear-view camera.

The 2.2-liter, turbocharged diesel engine that powers the Kia Carnival produces a maximum of 197.26 horsepower at 3,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 440 Nm between 1,750 and 2,750 rpm. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is connected to the engine to handle transmission work. The car meets BS6 requirements in India and achieves an ARAI-rated 14.11 km/l.

The Kia Carnival has a starting price of $34,465 in the US (around Rs. 28.2 lakh). The vehicle's starting price on the Indian market is Rs. 30.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
