Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has constituted a committee. Who will take care of the couples who marry in other religions and other castes. Also will gather news of such women who have been separated from their families to get married. The head of the committee and Minister of State Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that its aim is to stop cases like Shraddha Walker. Opposing this, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said that the Eknath Shinde government has no right to snoop on people's private lives.

In fact, a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the state's Women and Child Development Department on Tuesday states that Lodha will head the "Intercaste/Interreligion Marriage-Family Coordination Committee (State Level)". The committee will monitor at the district level for women involved in such marriages who may be separated from their families so that they can be helped if needed.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Lodha said that the committee is being formed so that a Shraddha Walker-like incident does not happen again. He said, "The truth is that Walker's family didn't know she had died six months earlier. We do not want another Shraddha and that is the reason why a committee will be formed to ensure that women are not away from their families in such marriages." The government resolution states that the committee will be a forum for counseling women and their families and resolving issues between them. The panel will have 13 members from government and non-government sectors to study the state and central government policies regarding welfare schemes and laws related to the matter. The committee will hold regular meetings with district officers and collect information on registered and unregistered inter-religious and inter-caste marriages. These will include such marriages which have taken place in places of worship and those which have been solemnized.
