Income Tax Department raids Congress leader Gangadhar Gowda's house, searches at three properties

Bangalore: The Income Tax Department raided today i.e. on Monday amid the heat of the assembly elections in Karnataka. The raids were conducted at 3 properties of former minister and senior Congress leader Gangadhar Gowda and his relative. All these three properties are located at Belthagandy in Dakshina Kannada district. Income Tax officials raided the Congress leader's residence at Belthagandy and an educational institution. This institute belongs to Ranjan Gowda, son of Gangadhar Gowda.

Gowda's residence is just opposite to Belthagandi Taluk Hospital. At the same time, his second residence is in Indabettu. A police team was also deployed on the spot during the raid. The officials of the Income Tax Department along with the police reached here at around 6.30 am and checked various records at all the three places. Gowda had left the BJP in 2018 and joined the Congress. Recently, he had announced to quit politics after not getting ticket for the Karnataka assembly elections.

At the same time, enforcement agencies have become active after the model code of conduct came into force in Karnataka. So far, an amount of more than 250 crores has been seized in various raids. The Election Commission gave information in this regard on Sunday. Let us tell you that on March 29, the Model Code of Conduct came into force in Karnataka. According to Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer, the total amount seized is Rs 254 crore, including Rs 82 crore in cash, Rs 57 crore in liquor, Rs 78 crore in gold and silver, Rs 20 crore in other goods, Rs 17 crore in drugs.
