New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on April 28 the case of murder of former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP and mafia Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf in police custody. There has been a demand in the court to set up an independent commission to investigate this massacre, on which the court has agreed to hear on Friday. Tell that, Atiq and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by 3 criminals posing as media persons from very close range. There was a stir in the whole of Uttar Pradesh due to this massacre. The murder took place when the UP police took Atiq and Ashraf to Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj for medical treatment on the night of 15 April.
Advocate Vishal Tiwari has filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this matter. Apart from the murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf, he has demanded an inquiry into the 183 encounters in UP since 2017. On Monday, Vishal Tiwari moved an application for urgent hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud. He said that he had come to the court for this matter on Monday itself, but the hearing could not be held. On this the CJI said, '5 judges are not present due to Corona infection and other problems. Therefore, the listing of some cases could not be done. We will try to take it up for hearing on Friday.'
In his petition, Vishal Tiwari mentioned the murder of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf and said, 'Such actions of the police are a threat to democracy. With this, the power of the police will be established in the state. He said in his petition that in a democratic society, the police cannot be allowed to take the final decision. He said that only the judiciary should have the power to punish a criminal.'
