New Delhi:  India and Kazakhstan have initiated a 13-day extensive military exercise at the Kazakh military base in Otar, commencing on October 30. The primary objective of this joint endeavor is to bolster their efforts in counter-terrorism cooperation. A group of 120 personnel from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force embarked on their journey to Kazakhstan on Sunday, marking the seventh edition of the 'Kazind-2023' exercise.

The Ministry of Defence stated, "In this iteration of the exercise, both nations will simulate counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional setting, operating under the mandate of the United Nations." The exercise will encompass a range of tactical maneuvers, including "search and destroy operations, small team insertion and extraction operations, and counter unmanned aerial system operations," as outlined by the ministry.

The ministry emphasized the significance of Exercise Kazind-2023 in providing a platform for the exchange of tactics, battle drills, and procedures essential for effective UN operations. It highlighted the role of joint training in enhancing the requisite skills, resilience, and coordination needed for military operations in semi-urban and urban environments.

Furthermore, the exercise will enable both sides to hone a diverse spectrum of combat skills while mutually benefiting from each other's expertise. The ministry underscored that Exercise Kazind will foster a stronger bond between the Indian and Kazakh armies.

The Indian Army's representation includes 90 personnel led by a battalion from the Dogra Regiment, while the Kazakhstan contingent mainly comprises personnel from the Regional Command South of the Kazakh Ground Forces. Additionally, 30 personnel from each country's air forces will take part in this collaborative exercise.
