New Delhi: The signing of an agreement that would allow Indian pilgrims to cross over to Pakistan to visit the Darbar Sahib Gurdwara at Kartarpur in Narowal district, is delayed by one day. The Ministry of External Affairs yesterday said on Tuesday that the Joint Secretary level officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs will meet the Pakistani official at Zero Point on Thursday and sign the MoU on behalf of India. The Foreign Ministry said on Monday that India is ready to sign the agreement on the corridor on Wednesday.

He said that a Joint Secretary level officer of the Union Home Ministry would meet Pakistani officials at the zero points near Kartarpur corridor on Thursday and sign a memorandum of understanding on behalf of India. Initially, both sides agreed that the agreement would be signed on Wednesday. The corridor will connect the gurdwara located in Kartarpur in Narowal district of Punjab province of Pakistan, about four km from the international border, to the Dera Baba Nanak Gurdwara in Punjab, India.

India agreed to sign the deal despite Pakistan's stubborn attitude of charging the pilgrims $ 20. Both countries are preparing to open the Kartarpur Corridor in early November before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. India has strongly opposed the service charges levied by Pakistan.
