In the Davis Cup, the Indian tennis team advanced to an impressive performance, easily winning both the opening matches on Saturday, beating Pakistan 4–0 and making it to the 2020 qualifier. During this time, India's experienced tennis star Leander Paes has won his 44th doubles, improving his Davis Cup record. The Indian pair of Paes and Jeevan Neduchezian defeated Pakistan's Muhammad Shoaib and Huffaiza Abdul Rahman 6–1, 6–3 in a 53-minute match on Saturday.

Paes defeated Italy's Nicola Pietrangeli last year, winning his 43rd doubles match and becoming the most successful player in Davis Cup history. Paes had registered a 43rd win in the 56th match, while Nikola had 66 matches to win 42 matches. Pace's record breaking has not been possible to break in recent times as no current doubles player is in the top 10 list. Max Mirnyi of Belarus is at number three with 36 wins but is not playing in the tour since 2018.

India will now face Croatia in the qualifiers and the match will be played from March 6-7. The 24 teams will clash for 12 qualifying places in the Davis Cup Finals. At the same time, the 12 losing teams will play in World Group I in September 2020. The winning teams will play in the finals for which Canada, Britain, Russia, Spain, France and Serbia have already qualified.
