India's representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, strongly criticized the loss of civilian lives in the current conflict between Israel and Hamas. She labeled the humanitarian crisis as completely unacceptable.
Kamboj condemned the deaths of civilians, particularly women and children, resulting from the conflict. She acknowledged the initial trigger as the terror attacks in Israel on October 7, emphasizing India's zero-tolerance stance on terrorism.
Speaking at a United Nations General Assembly meeting about the situation in West Asia, Kamboj highlighted India's efforts to ease tensions in the region. She mentioned India's engagements with leaders from Israel and Palestine and its stance expressed in various international forums.
India has contributed 70 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including medicine and funds, to support the people of Palestine. Kamboj emphasized India's commitment to a two-state solution for lasting peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict, urging both sides to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy.
She reiterated India's call to prevent escalation, ensure aid delivery, and restore peace. Emphasizing the need for both parties to refrain from violence, she urged them to create conditions for direct peace negotiations to resume promptly.
India changed its position on the Israel-Hamas conflict by voting in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution urging an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Earlier, New Delhi had refrained from voting on a UN resolution calling for a truce between Israel and the Palestine-based militant group.
