Amid diplomatic tensions between India and the Maldives, the Israeli embassy in India announced its support for promoting tourism in Lakshadweep. The embassy highlighted its involvement in the desalination program in Lakshadweep at the request of the Indian government. Israel expressed readiness to resume work on the project immediately and shared images showcasing the beauty of Lakshadweep's beaches and underwater landscapes.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's post promoting Lakshadweep as a tourist destination, some Maldivian ministers made disparaging remarks on social media, implying that it was aimed at diverting tourists from the Maldives. As a result, three deputy ministers in the Maldives were suspended for their comments. The Maldivian foreign ministry clarified that these comments represented personal views and not the country's official stance.

Former Maldivian Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi criticized the Maldives government for the derogatory comments against PM Modi, emphasizing India's historical support in various sectors, including defense. She highlighted India as a crucial ally that has consistently aided the Maldives in times of need and expressed disappointment in the short-sightedness of the current administration for undermining the relationship between the two countries.
