India Covid Roundup: 44,230 new COVID-19 cases, overall tally at 31.57 Million

India reported on Friday 44,230 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours,  and the nationwide tally of infections reached 31.57 million, according to the health ministry. The country reported 555 deaths overnight, taking the overall tally to 423,217 fatalities, data showed. Total cases reached 3,15,72,344, while active cases scaled 4,05,155 . Total recoveries: 3,07,43,972 and Death toll: 4,23,217 and Total vaccination crosses 45,60,33,754.

Following Southern  Kerala, neighbouring Karnataka and Tamil Nadu also recorded a spike in new Covid cases laat day, taking India’s daily case count to nearly 45,000, the highest in 22 days. Kerala logged 22,064 fresh cases on Thursday accounting for more than 50 percent of India’s new cases in the past two days.

Meanwhile, Amid rising cases of coronavirus in Kerala, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday appealed to people in the state to follow all safety measures and guidelines.  "Rising cases of Coronavirus infections in Kerala are worrying," Gandhi said.  "I appeal to our brothers and sisters in the state to follow all safety measures & guidelines. Please take care," the MP from Kerala's Wayanad said in a tweet.
