NEW DELHI: India has invited over 120 nations for a conference of the global south, giving a voice to non-G20 nations to flag their concerns and share perspectives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the Voice of Global South summit virtually on January 12-13 and the session with heads of states.

The theme of the Summit is Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra told the media this evening in New Delhi. He said, the summit would bring together nations from the Global South to discuss a wide range of topics from their points of view and priorities. The invitation list for this Summit includes more than 120 nations. This programme draws inspiration from Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a founding concept of India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Sabka Saath, Sabha Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas.

According to the foreign secretary, India has continuously led the way and championed the interests of the developing countries. In all international fora, he claimed, India has been vocal about representing the interests and worries of allies in the Global South. According to Mr. Kwatra, recent global events like the COVID pandemic and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine have had a significant negative influence on the poor world in a variety of ways.

The foreign secretary emphasised that what is urgently required is a collaborative, goal-oriented discussion that is concentrated on the most important issues, priorities, and interests of the developing countries. He said that India is making an effort through the Summit to offer a forum for discussion of these issues that are relevant to developing countries.

India would endeavour to ensure that the valuable contributions made by partner nations in the Voice of the Global South discussions are given the proper global recognition, he continued. The current G20 Presidency of India offers a unique and powerful chance to include these inputs into the G20's discussion and discourse.
