The media reports informs that Indian government has invited UK prime minister Boris Johnson to be the chief guest for the 2021 Republic Day. A new agency quoted that an official invite was extended on 27 November during a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and British PM Johnson.

There was no official confirmation from the British High Commission about the invitation with officials reportedly saying that Johnson was keen to visit India as soon as possible. Media sources further quoted diplomatic sources as saying that a decision is awaited on this from London. During the telephonic conversation, Johnson, on his part, invited Modi to the G-7 summit in the United Kingdom next year, people familiar with the development told.

Further information about the telephonic talks are on the prevailing Covid 19 pandemic, climate change, and few other related issues. To be noted, if Johnson accepts Indian invite, he would become the first British prime minister to grace the parade at Rajpath in nearly three decades. John mayor was the last UK delegate to be the chief guest at the Republic day. India had invited Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro to be the chief guest at the 2020 Republic Day parade.
