Given the strong opposition from India after the shooting was dropped from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, there has been an increased hope of hosting the Commonwealth Shooting Championship 2022. The Commonwealth Games Federation has asked the Indian Olympic Association to make a formal proposal for it. In early January, the proposal has been called to present before the CGF Sports Committee, which is to be sent to its executive committee for approval. There was a meeting between the GCF and the International Shooting Federation (ISSF) in Munich on 5 December. In a letter to IOA President Narendra Batra, the CGF said it was excited by the proposal of the National Rifle Federation of India (NRAI) President Raninder Singh and the ISSF led by Vladimir Lisin to host the event ahead of the Commonwealth Games to be held in 2022.

To be formally introduced by the Commonwealth Games Federation of India. We support you in implementing that proposal."

His proposal also discusses the complex issue of adding medals won in this championship to the table of 2022 Commonwealth Games of the respective countries. He said, the medals won in this proposed championship should have the same importance as the medals won in the main event of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He proposed to start this championship on 14 March 2022. The IOA had threatened to withdraw from the Games in protest against the removal of shooting from the Commonwealth Games. He proposed that by organizing the shooting championship, its medals should be added to the account of the country concerned. Batra had said that if the medals were not added to the country's account, India would not participate in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship.
