India's top-ranked singles player HS Prannoy bowed out of the Australian Open Super 500 event after a defeat against higher-ranked Kodai Naraoka of Japan. None of India's shuttlers managed to progress beyond the quarterfinals in the competition held on Friday.

Prannoy, ranked world No. 10, lost to Naraoka 19-21, 13-21. Despite making a strong rally from 10-16 down to level at 18-all in the first game, Naraoka maintained his composure to clinch the set. The Japanese player dominated the second game, preventing Prannoy from making a comeback, and won the match in just over an hour.

Earlier, Sameer Verma, fresh from his upset victory over former world No. 1 Loh Kean Yew, suffered a defeat against world No. 17 Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei. Lin won comfortably with a score of 21-12, 21-13 in 38 minutes.

In the mixed doubles event, the eighth-seeded pair of Sikki Reddy and B Sumeeth Reddy, faced tough opposition from top-seeded Jian Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin, losing 12-21, 14-21 in about half an hour.

In the women's singles, eighth seed Aakarshi Kashyap lost to Yu Po Pai of Chinese Taipei 17-21, 12-21 in a 42-minute contest.
