In a recent report, it has been emphasized that the impending rollout of 6G technology in India necessitates a complete transformation of the nation's tower infrastructure, calling for 100% fiberization, a stark departure from the present rate of just 38%. This revelation has prompted a call for a swift and strategic action plan to bridge this substantial gap.

The report, jointly presented by KPMG in India and the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023, underlines the importance of India's continued commitment to research and development endeavors, which not only bolster the global knowledge repository but also play a pivotal role in shaping the future of 6G technology. The significance of India's proactive role in establishing global standards for 6G technology is underscored, and it is suggested that the country leverage its manufacturing capabilities to produce and export 6G equipment to other nations.

KPMG's CEO in India, Yezdi Nagporewalla, praised India's forward-looking 6G vision document, positioning the nation as a digital powerhouse on the global technological stage. He noted that India's burgeoning population and technological advancements provide a significant advantage, positioning the country as a dependable global digital leader. Nagporewalla emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in enhancing digital literacy, strengthening cybersecurity, exploring new technologies, and promoting exports.

India's technology-focused endeavors extend to areas such as 5G and 6G development, Satellite Communication (SatCom), and semiconductor manufacturing. KPMG estimates that these three technological domains could collectively contribute approximately $240 billion to India's economy over the next five years and an additional 1.6% to the national GDP by FY2028.

Recognizing the immense potential in the semiconductor industry, the Indian government has been actively working to position the country at the forefront of the global semiconductor supply chain. With an array of attractive incentives, India is offering a total of $30 billion in support for semiconductors and related industries.

P Ramakrishna, CEO of India Mobile Congress, highlighted the robust growth trajectory of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector and noted that major industry players are now looking to meet the demands of the Indian customer base while also seizing the opportunity to become global suppliers. This trend is further supported by the government's commitment to facilitating conducive policies and enabling infrastructure.

As India looks to embrace the future with 6G technology, it is evident that a comprehensive and expedited plan for fiberizing towers will be integral to the nation's digital transformation and global technological leadership.
