New Delhi: Telecom and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Monday that India has set a target to overtake China in the field of mobile manufacturing while simultaneously attracting global companies through the Production Based Incentive (PLI) scheme. He said that with the expansion of the PLI scheme in other areas, the government wants to make the country a manufacturing hub of electronic products.

The Law Minister said at the annual convention of industry association FICCI that, "We wanted India to become the second-largest mobile manufacturer in the world." But now I am insisting on taking India ahead of China. This is my goal and I am clearly defining it. ”India became the second-largest mobile manufacturing country in the world in 2017. In the National Policy on Electronics (NPE) 2019, the emphasis has been laid on increasing electronic manufacturing to more than Rs 26 lakh crore by 2025. Of this, Rs 13 lakh crore is expected to come from the mobile manufacturing segment.

Prasad said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the PLI scheme has been brought in to establish India as an alternative manufacturing hub. He said that the objective of PLI is to bring world-class companies to India and make Indian companies world-class. Under the government-initiated PLI scheme, eligible companies can get incentives of up to Rs 48,000 crore.
