Bhubaneswar: India has successfully test-fired the Agni Prime missile off the Balasore coast of Odisha today i.e. It is said to be an advanced version of Agni series missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. According to reports, the surface-to-surface ballistic missile has a range of 1000 to 2000 km. Not only that, the missile has been designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Explaining this, officials said, "Several new features were added to Agni prime missile during the test. It accomplished all the goals of the mission with high-level accuracy. Agni Prime is a very low weight missile equipped with ultra-modern techniques. This week India successfully launched the Supersonic Missile Assisted Torpedo System (SMAT) from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. DrDO recently informed that the system has been designed to enhance anti-submarine combat capabilities, which is much higher than the range of traditional torpedoes.
At the same time, DRDO had said in a statement that, "This test was as planned. The entire trajectory was monitored by various range radars including an electro-optic telemetry system, downrange instrumentation and downrange ship. The missile had torpedoes, parachute delivery systems and release mechanisms.''
