New Delhi: The Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) is set to host the Conference on Traditional Medicines for ASEAN Countries on July 20, 2023.

In collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Mission to ASEAN, and the ASEAN Secretariat, this event aims to foster stronger ties between India and ASEAN nations in the realm of traditional medicines.

Expect a diverse gathering of 75 participants, including international delegates from eight ASEAN countries. Additionally, two international delegates will join the conference through virtual mode. Together, they will engage in an intensive one-day brainstorming session at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, sharing their invaluable ideas and experiences pertaining to traditional medicines.

During the curtain raiser event, Union Minister for Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the enduring bond between India and ASEAN, rooted in shared geography, history, and civilization that spans over two millennia. Sonowal also emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Act East Policy,' which injected fresh momentum into the strategic partnership between India and ASEAN.

This conference on Traditional Medicine signifies a significant milestone in deepening India's collaboration with ASEAN, following a hiatus of almost a decade. Sonowal underlined the exponential growth of the Ayush sector, which gained autonomous status under the Ministry of Ayush, thanks to PM Modi's visionary decision. Today, the Ministry actively collaborates with renowned international organizations from the UK, the US, Japan, Brazil, Germany, as well as esteemed national institutions. Together, they conduct cutting-edge research on Ayush systems to combat non-communicable diseases like Diabetes Mellitus, Cancer, Mental Health issues, and even infectious diseases like Covid.

The Ministry of Ayush has taken robust strides in international cooperation to bolster the export of Ayush products and services. It has successfully forged meaningful Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) focused on 'Cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines,' 'Setting up of Ayush Chairs in Foreign Universities/Institutes,' and 'Collaborative Research' at various levels.

Prepare for a groundbreaking Conference on Traditional Medicines, where India and ASEAN countries will forge stronger bonds, exchange best practices, and chart a path towards future collaboration. Stay tuned for this transformative event that promises to shape the future of traditional medicine.
