NEW DELHI: In a bid to amplify the momentum of startups, investors, and incubators, India is gearing up to inaugurate the BRICS Startup Forum in 2023.
The primary objective of this initiative, as highlighted by Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, is to foster collaboration and the exchange of knowledge among startups, investors, incubators, and emerging entrepreneurs. Goyal made these remarks during the virtual 7th BRICS Industry Ministers' meeting, which was convened by South Africa in its capacity as the Chair.
Goyal, in his discourse, not only shed light on the transformative journey India has undergone but also drew attention to the expansion of the Startup India program, which has been instrumental in nurturing the birth of nearly 100,000 startups within the nation. A central theme of his address was "Transforming Production Systems," underlining India's potential in aiding other BRICS member countries as well as the broader global community.
An essential underpinning of India's approach is encapsulated by the principle of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" ('The World Is One Family'), signifying India's commitment to assuming its role as a conscientious global citizen. This commitment is dedicated to fostering a world that is inclusive, tolerant, and interconnected.
The gathering of industry ministers from fellow BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa—was a significant aspect of the event. Their collective efforts resulted in the adoption of a joint declaration, which carried a reaffirmation of the urgency surrounding digitalization, industrialization, innovation, inclusivity, and investment within the BRICS realm.
A prominent acknowledgment made by the ministers centered around the significance of Industry 4.0 and other emergent technologies in steering the digital transformation of diverse economic sectors. Their shared vision accentuated the necessity for human resource development, and they explored avenues for cooperation in upskilling and reskilling programs.
Unwavering dedication to enhancing industrial collaboration and propelling the recovery and growth of the industrial economy remained a core theme reiterated by the ministers. The bedrock of this endeavor was the mutual commitment to cultivating an environment that is open, equitable, robust, and impartial.
Moreover, the ministers were keen on the pivotal role played by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), stressing the value of integrating and diversifying these entities into the global fabric of industrial, supply, and value chains. They equally emphasized the creation of market opportunities within the BRICS collective to facilitate the inclusive progress of initiatives managed or owned by women, youth, and marginalized groups.
