New Delhi: The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses delivered in India has now surpassed 117 crore, the Central Government announced on Tuesday. In a tweet, the Indian government stated, "India has administered more than 117 crore COVID vaccines under the world's largest immunisation programme thus far."

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 63,98,165 vaccine doses were delivered to beneficiaries till 7 p.m. on Monday, with the daily vaccination tally expected to rise once final reports are compiled late that evening.

The nationwide vaccination campaign began on January 16, with healthcare workers (HCWs) being the first to be vaccinated, followed by frontline workers (FLWs) on February 2. The second phase of COVID-19 vaccination for persons over 60 years old began on March 1.

The government began vaccinations for all adults over the age of 45 on April 1, while vaccinations for those over the age of 18 began on May 1. The immunisation campaign has been boosted by the availability of more vaccinations, improved visibility of vaccine availability for States and UTs to enable better planning, and a more efficient vaccine supply chain.
