New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress on Monday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government completed its eighth year in office, saying that the country was mired in corruption and nepotism before 2014, but that it is now reaching new heights.

PM Modi made the remarks after releasing rewards under the PM CARES for Children programme via video conferencing on Monday.

The Prime Minister, speaking at the event, stated, "Today, as our government nears the end of its eight-year term, the country's and countrymen's faith in themselves is unprecedented. Corruption, multi-billion-dollar schemes, nepotism, terrorist organisations spreading across the country, regional discrimination... the country is emerging from the vicious cycle in which it was engulfed prior to 2014."

"No one could have predicted the heights India has reached in the last eight years. Today, India's pride in the world has grown, as has our country's power in international forums. And I'm delighted that India's progress is being led by young people " he said,

The Prime Minister went on to say that  India exhibited faith in its capabilities, scientists, doctors, and youth in the Covid-19 fight and emerged not as a concern but a ray of hope for the world.

"India depended on its strength in the face of adversity. We put our faith in our scientists, doctors, and youth. Medicines and vaccinations were provided to places all around the world. We administered the vaccine to every resident, even in such a large country. And we emerged as a beam of optimism for the globe, rather than a source of concern. We did not become the problem, but also the giver of a solution "he mentioned.
