Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan needed victories for India to reach Davis Cup World Group 1. Both players saved 3 match points on the court of Delhi Gymkhana by defeating Friedrich Nielsen and Mikel Torpigaard in a 3 set fight to secure India a place in the World Group.

Bopanna-Sharan, playing their first Davis Cup match since February 2019, have defeated Nielsen-Torpegaard 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-6 (4) in a 118-minute clash. Bopanna broke Nielsen's serve in the first game of the second set after losing the first set in the tiebreaker and took the second set to his name. The score in the third set was 5-6 and Divij was trailing 0-40 on his serve. Denmark had 3 match points, but Dennis could not capitalise on three points and India got a 3-0 lead.  

Ramkumar's hand: In the first reverse singles, Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated Ingildson 5-7, 7-5, 10-7 to give India a 4-0 victory. Ramanathan was on the verge of defeat in the first reverse singles. In the second set, Ingildson has got many opportunities. At scores of 5-6 and 30-30, he made two consecutive double faults to put Ramkumar in the set bag. There was also a struggle in the super tiebreaker, but the battle fell in the hands of Ramkumar. The need to play the unimportant second reversed single was not felt. Meanwhile, veteran Vijay Amritraj has been honoured for his outstanding performance in the Davis Cup.
