Dhaka: India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday. Sources confirmed that during their discussion, he conveyed warm regards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India, congratulating Sheikh Hasina on her recent election victory.

Verma holds the distinction of being the first envoy to personally felicitate Hasina on her election triumph. He expressed optimism regarding the enhanced collaboration between India and Bangladesh during the new term of the Awami League government. Sources noted that Verma anticipated an even stronger momentum in their bilateral partnership, mutually supporting each other's national development.

During the meeting, the Indian Envoy reiterated India's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in achieving its vision of becoming a stable, progressive, and prosperous nation. This support, he emphasized, stems from the enduring friendship between the two nations and their shared sacrifices during the Liberation War.

Sheikh Hasina clinched a significant victory in the Gopalganj-3 constituency, securing her eighth term as a Member of Parliament. Her party triumphed in 223 seats, enabling the formation of the government following Sunday's elections.

The Prime Minister garnered an overwhelming 249,962 votes, while her closest competitor, Md Atiqur Rahman, received 6,999 votes. Another candidate, Mahabur Mollah, secured 425 votes. This win marks Hasina's fifth consecutive term in office.

In a directive issued on Sunday evening, Sheikh Hasina urged her party members, workers, and supporters to refrain from organizing victory processions following the election results. She also emphasized avoiding conflicts with rival candidates and their supporters.'
