New Delhi: India has termed Pakistan's decision to hand over the management of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara to a separate trust as 'highly condemnable', saying it is against the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. The Ministry of External Affairs said that in the report submitted to India by the Sikh community, the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has expressed concern about handing over the gurdwara management and maintenance to a non-Sikh body, 'Evacuee Trust Property Board'.

In November last year, the two countries had taken a historic initiative to connect the people who opened the corridor from Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan to Dera Baba Sahib in Gurdaspur, India. The Foreign Ministry said, 'We have seen reports of the management and maintenance of Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib of Pakistan being handed over from Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee to another trust 'Evacuee Trust Property Board' which is not a Sikh body.

The ministry said, 'This unilateral decision of Pakistan is 'highly condemnable' and is against the religious sentiments of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and the Sikh community.' The four-kilometre long Kartarpur corridor connects Dera Baba Nanak of Gurdaspur district of Punjab and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.
