Wrestling: Deepak Punia's brilliant performance helped India become world champion

He jumped eight metres after twice in his first three tries, covered 7.95. He then jumped 6.71, 7.62 and 7.73 meters. This is the third time that Sri Shankar has made an eight-metre long jump. He had earlier set a national record with a jump of 8.11 and 8.20 metres at the National Open Championships held in Bhubaneswar. However, the player had to stay away from the game due to a heel injury. He took part in four tournaments in Europe after his return in June this year.

Usain Bolt ran not for the records but for this reason!

"After the withdrawal from injury, I have not participated in many competitions. I am happy to cover eight metres but I have to improve further." Karnataka's Siddharth Naik (7.56 metres) finished second and Haryana's Sahil Mahabali (7.55 metres) third. Inderjit Singh lagged far behind the 20.70-meter standard to qualify for the World Championships. His best performance was 19.51 metres.
