Indian Islands A&N and Lakshadweep to be Green Energy Island

Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy and Power, R K Singh assured full cooperation to the Island nation Maldives in its efforts to promote RE projects. At the Country session of Maldives during 3rd Global Re-Invest, Minister said India prioritises its Islands fully on green energy, converting them as Green Energy Islands. Power minister further said that we have given target to our Islands(Andaman & Nicobar Isalands, Lakshadweep) to become totally green, their energy needs should be met from Renewable Energy. 

India is one among the few countries to met its commitment of keeping climate change within 2%. India has installed about 136000mw of RE capacity and another 57000mw under implementation. Under the energy efficiency programme more than 11 million LED street lights have been installed, minister added, “you will have to work very hard find a bulb which is not LED".

It is absolutely essential that renewable energy is given centrality in Maldives as the beautiful island country has to maintain its beauty to attract the tourists. Minister Hussain Rasheed Hassan (ME), Government of Maldives, highlighted on their need to reduce oil import dependence. He uttered the country has understood the threat under climatic changes.
