The Indian men's team made a scintillating start by defeating Germany 5-0 in the Thomas Cup of Badminton, which began here on Sunday. World Championships bronze medalist Lakshya Sen defeated world number 64 Max Weiskirchen in straight sets 21-16, 21-13.
After the victory of the target, the Indian team maintained its momentum in the doubles match as well. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Johns Rafi Jansen and Marvin Seidel 21-15, 10-21, 21-13. After which world number 11 Kidambi Srikanth defeated Kai Schaefer 18-21, 21-9 and 21-11 in a three-set match.

Srikanth lost his first set 18-21 but has made a tremendous comeback. By winning the final two sets 21-9, 21-11, India have taken a 3-0 lead in Group C. After which, in the second doubles match, India's MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila defeated the pair of Jane Gis and Jane Colin Walker 25-23 and 21-15. After which, in the singles match, world number 23 HS Prannoy defeated Matthias Kiklitz 21-9, 21-9 in a one-sided match. In this way, India has also made a strong start in the Thomas Cup by defeating Germany 5-0.  

India has not won the title so far: In the  Thomas Cup, India has failed to win the title so far. Even the team did not reach the semi-finals. Last year, the Indian men's team reached the quarterfinals. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Bangkok from May 8 to 15.
